You can certainly use a braided leader! In that case you will need a loop at the end of your fly line to attach the loop on the leader to. These are easy to make either by splicing the fly line or by attaching a braided loop.

I am trying to figure out what shooting head lenght I need for my new 13' # 8 Scott ARC.
What do you recommend? Unfortunately I'm a novice two hander after 40 yrs. of fishing.
Good idea to tie them this way, I have spend too much time lately on the tying bench so I have to hold back a little before I try it.
I am going to do a float trip in Alaska mid of July, that is in connection with a business trip and I decided it late, so I had to tie a lot of pacific salmon flies. My better half has already asked the question "do you now have enough flies".
I have still taken a few soft hacles from the stock and put them in the box for grayling and rainbows. We'll see what happens.

Summit 2007 Flyswap sounds a great idea to me, though we don't catch sea-trout in the sea here so its difficult to have a favourite. However, I'll think of something x21 (or however many). Maybe tie you all a bass-fly!

That's going to be a lot of flies, 21 people and counting, it's the same amount of flies i use in a 3 year period. It's my luck that i've got a new favorite fly ;o)
Kidding aside i'll have to pass on this otherwise great idea, because i haven't tied so many flies (alltogether) the last two years, and i'm a bit to lazy to sit my a.. down and tie 25 dark honeys :o) it will take two much af my mullet fishing time. :o)

I'm in on that one, I have a personal favourite: a magnus with some blue dubbing in the body and a purple teal front-hackle. I've caught my last several Seatrouts on that fly (very few exceptions) all through winter and up until a couple of weeks ago.
Anybody else in on this one?

This is totally untrue.
If the design of your fly has leaked out is was not through this source, as I have not and would not sell details of our secret fish-seeking missile - except for a very large sum of money. Or, perhaps, a Sage rod.
Mercifully - now the secret is out - this model is obsolete, as you have now tied up version V26.412.007. I should have the printed circuit boards ready for the next production run by Sunday.
Looking forward to trying it out in September.

I managed to get a hold of the secret Kai fly.
This an actual copy of the fly that Kai used and Kai is pictured holding and priming the fly.
Les is seen observing (right) and is said to have "sold" a blueprint of the fly to an unknown source.
Investigations are currently being carried to find out if this fly named "GFF '06" will be used to further Kai's catch rating at the next GFF summit.

Now I know why it turns yellow... I've tying almost all my flies for many years with epoxy using toothpics and mixing over a pape sheets!!!!
There is no problem with small or dark heads. For poppers I use an epoxy resin made for finishing furniture surfaces. It is more liquid than ordinary epoxy and cures in 45 min., but turning the fly it is O.K. It lasts absolutely clear for many years, no one of my poppers tyed five or six years ago is yellowed.
I buy it from an Art Store. It is used for a glass finish on tables and for "country art".

The Partridge and Hare is certainly a fantastic fly. The entire line of soflhackles are worthy of inclusion in any well-tempered kit. I carry them from a size 8 to a size 18 and I've caught just about everything on them. if you want to try something just a bit different, use a bright flourescent orange thread to tie the P&H - it gives the fly a fine ruddy glow when wet. Dub lightly and use the brown hackles from a partridge. With this variation I'll often leave an 8" tag of thread from the tie in at the beginning, tie in the hackle butt first at the head (Stewart style), dubb the body and then wrap the hackle [i:07a1238058]back[/i:07a1238058] towards the tail. I'll then rib the body and wind through the hackle using the tag end and tie the whole thing off with a small neat head. tied this way the fly in almost indestructible, it has a great ribbed effect, and it tapers naturally towards the tail end.

I've tied a brand new fly, of witch Paul after our last trip said: "If I had that fly in my box,
it was surely the last thing I want to have on the end of my leader!"
But it catches - that's proven for sure.

Leervis/garrick, elf/shad, grunter at De Mond, and Kabeljou will be the prime species that time of the year on fly. Poppers, decievers, clousers and some prawn patterns for the grunter etc all work. You just have to put in the hours. Get one of the Nedbank guides, they will give you excellent info. Regards Korrie Broos
